What is 3-Event Skiing?
There are 3 events: Slalom, Trick, and Jump.
In Slalom, the skier must ski around 6 buoys that are set in the water, called the course. The skier aims to make all 6 buoys. If accomplished, the skier goes faster until they fall or miss a buoy, then their turn is finished. Once a skier reaches their maximum speed (determined by age/gender) they shorten the rope length, increasing the difficulty. The skier that can make the most buoys at faster speed with the shortest rope, wins.
In Trick, the skier competes on one or two trick skis, which are similiar to a wakeboard, except different in the way the feet are facing and have a smoother bottom surface making them more "slippery" or harder to control. The skier has 20 seconds to perform as many tricks as they can which have a set number of points if completed. A wakeboard can be used in the trick event, but for half of the points of a regular trick ski. More difficult tricks earn higher points, leaving the skier who earns the most points the winner.
In Jump, the skier skis over a 5' ramp. The scoring is simple, whoever can go the farthest, wins. To increase distance, skiers increase boat speed and then begin cutting toward the ramp. The skier is scored only if they can land and ride away a jump.
