Tournaments
Ask any team member, and most likely they will tell you that the most fun aspect of the waterski team is going to TOURNAMENTS! Whether you grew up competing in the summer or have no interest in competing, we assure you, tournaments are an experience that every water-sport enthusiast must attend at least once in their collegiate career.
When hundreds of college skiers clad in bikinis and boardshorts congregate for a weekend with skiing during the day and DJ's and shenanigans in the evening, it's bound to be a good time.
In the nation, there are 4 regions: East, West, Midwest, and South Central. Purdue belongs to the Midwest region which includes schools ranging from
Ohio to Kansas to
Minnesota. Within the
Midwest Region are two
conferences: the Great
Lakes and Great Plaines.
We are a part of the
Great Lakes, meaning we
compete with schools
mainly in Ohio and Michigan early in the season before
encountering schools from the other conference at Regionals.
We travel to 4 tournaments located in the Midwest that take place on the weekends during the month of September. All of the Midwest teams camp in tents during these tournaments which promotes team bonding and adds to the "collegiate experience." Pending qualification through placement at Regionals, we travel to collegiate Nationals, which takes place in a warm location ususally the South or West.
What Should I Bring?
If you're a tournament first-timer, here are some of the essentials:
- tent (or find a friend to share with)
- sleeping gear (bag/blanket, pillow)
- warm clothes- it gets cold at night!
- bug spray
- sunscreen
- swimsuit
- and be ready to have fun!
